I’m sure all of us know that passion comes with a heavy price tag. For the most part that price is paid in time, money, and lifestyle. Car enthusiasts house shop very differently than the “norms” out there. A three-car garage becomes a top pick while more than 2 bathrooms is just being bourgie.

Unfortunately, when you’re passionate about more than one thing, they tend to conflict with each other. In my case there is a $28,000 marimba I have an eye for. My thought is I’m going to live with it everyday for practically forever, do concerts and make money off it, plus love every second of it! So worth the price.

Of course I would need a home for the interior space and especially airspace between neighbors. Oh! Plus a van to transport it to gigs. The van could replace my DD, yeah! In fact I need the utility anyways. Yeah! How the hell am I surviving without the utility?! I neeeeed utility!

Buuuut...I could buy a truck and a sporty coupe for the price of a new marimba and van. Either way, music and cars are transforming my lifestyle and forcing me to look into a house (that’s expensive). I would need more furniture and appliances (more money, time, and lifestyle changes). Gah!! I forgot about kids and shit!!!

Well one thing is for certain, I’ll still be broke in 10 years...happy friday.

One of my passions is not spending money on things.

Me too... Unfortunately every so often I reward myself for not spending money on things by spending money on things.

I enjoy saving and I enjoy planned spending. Rich Gang speaks about Lifestyle, very deep thinker.

I have a DMA in trumpet performance hanging over my computer. I know a thing or two about the life of a professional musician these days. It’s a tough row to hoe, but if you want it, go for it. My only advice: don’t marry another musician.

I bought the extended warranty to stop myself modding. I figured the price would be a little less than the mods I wanted, with the added bonus of protecting me should something break. Sounds win-win. Now it’s really starting to piss me off, because there’s some stuff I reeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaally want to change :)

My only advice: don’t marry another musician.

Because one of you has to have an income.

Precisely. And insurance. But it goes beyond that. I’ve seen musican couples who have broken up because of jobs in different cities. I suppose that can happen in any career, though.

If you get the marimba you could make mad YouTube ad money though:

On the downside, you’d need friends to help you make said videos.

My housing problem is that I’ve never seen a house that actually fits my needs and wishes. Who is making a house with a decent sized garage these days? How about one with drains in the floor so when you bring a wet car in it won’t leave a puddle? One with decent workshop space? A pantry that has doors to both the garage and kitchen? One with a mud room next to the laundry room (and how about a drain in there, too)? En suite or jack-and-jill for every bedroom (seriously, every bedroom should be setup so it can be isolated as a micro-suite when needed)?

I swear that architecture is more about style and not rocking the boat than it is about facilitating the lives of occupants.

As a former high school percussionist... Tweh... Twenty Eight THOUSAND Dollars!?!? For a marimba?

Trust me, I said the same thing! It’s basically a 911 Turbo S in terms of marimbas. That said, I can have a Turbo S for the price of a 4-cylinder Impala. Being a bachelor is like being retired except less money and you still have to work.
